About ŌDWR

Volunteers organising donated goods for families

Our Story

Ōtepoti Dunedin Whānau Refuge works alongside wāhine, tamariki, and whānau impacted by whānau and family violence across Dunedin and the wider Otago region, supporting safety, healing, and empowerment.

What began as a grassroots community response to a growing need has evolved into a trusted, culturally responsive organisation providing confidential crisis support, safe accommodation, advocacy and therapeutic care. Our services are grounded in manaakitanga and shaped by a holistic, whānau-centred approach that recognises the complex impacts of whānau family violence.

We walk alongside wāhine and whānau at every stage from immediate safety planning and crisis response through to court advocacy, specialist tamariki support and long-term wellbeing pathways. Our commitment is simple: to ensure every person who reaches out feels safe, heard and supported to rebuild their life with dignity and stability.
